The Security Service of Ukraine detained another agent of military intelligence of the Russian Federation, who tried to prepare a blow to energy infrastructure that feeds Kiev and the entire capital region. The place of potential sabotage was the high -voltage power lines that connect the Rivne nuclear power plant with the Kyiv region.
According to the SBU, the agent was supposed to install a GPS tracker on one of the supports of the main transmission lines so that the Russian drones-Kamikadze could be affected by critical infrastructure at his signal. According to security officers, in case of successful impact, the capital and adjacent areas could remain without electricity.
The former employee of the Rivne NPP was the attacker, who was released from the regime object to a full -scale invasion. However, in the spring of 2025, he wrote in the messenger a "connected" Russian military intelligence and offered a monetary reward for cooperation.
After consent, the agent received clear instructions on actions - to explore the territory around the strategic infrastructure, to collect data on the location of military units, and then to install a beacon directly on the transmission line. Due to this, the invaders planned a high -precision attack by drones on the object.
The suspect acted hidden, making his way to the "goal" through the open terrain. At the moment he tried to activate the tracker, he was detained by the SBU counterintelligence. He seized a mobile phone with correspondence with Russian GRU agents.
The man has already been reported suspicion and he is in custody. By law, for sabotage in the conditions of martial law, he is threatened with life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
This case is another proof of attempts by the Russian Federation to attack Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Particularly dangerous was such an attempt in the context of a possible massive attack on Kiev and agglomeration, which could lead to blackberries in the million region.
Law enforcement officers emphasize that the enemy intensifies the recruitment of agents, in particular among persons who previously had access to regime objects or live near critical infrastructure. The SBU once again urges citizens to report suspicious persons or actions near energy objects and other strategic structures.
