From February 18, 2025, quarantine will be introduced in schools in the Lviv region due to a sharp increase in the incidence of influenza and SARS. Educational institutions will switch to a distance learning format, which will last until February 28. This was announced by the director of the regional department of education and science, Oleh Paska, during a briefing.
According to Paska, experts will monitor the epidemic situation in the region during this period, after which they will make a decision on further steps.
It is noted that quarantine was introduced earlier in some schools. For example, students at Boryatyn Gymnasium began studying online on February 17.
Quarantine restrictions were also introduced earlier in other regions of Ukraine, in particular in Rivne, Transcarpathia, Khmelnytskyi, Odesa, Chernivtsi and Vinnytsia regions.
Increasing incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections in the Lviv region
Over the past week, the number of people with influenza and SARS in the Lviv region has increased by 22%, and more than 15 thousand cases have already been registered. More than half of the patients are school-age children (5-14 years old). There are 177 patients in hospitals in the region, and on February 16 alone, 85 patients were hospitalized in the infectious diseases hospital. Laboratory tests confirmed that half of the samples contain influenza A and B viruses.
Doctors urge residents of the region to follow preventive measures, avoid crowded places, and seek medical attention at the first symptoms of the disease.
Flu and SARS in Kyiv
Seasonal diseases are also actively spreading in Kyiv. Over the past week, the incidence of influenza and SARS in the capital has increased by more than 22%. Given this, Kyiv is discussing the possibility of introducing enhanced anti-epidemic measures, especially for regions where the epidemic threshold has been exceeded. The main threat is posed by children, who are the main spreaders of infection in schools.
