In Kyiv, a businessman will be tried for illegally building a restaurant complex on the shores of Lake Telbin. He not only illegally occupied communal land, but also forged documents to legalize his actions.
According to the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, an entrepreneur seized parts of three land plots in the Dnipro district of the capital without any permits. The total area of the illegally occupied territory is 0.1535 hectares, and it belongs to the territorial community of Kyiv.
Despite the lack of any legal basis, the man built a restaurant complex and began renting it out to other entrepreneurs.
In order to legalize the illegally constructed facilities, the businessman resorted to forging documents. However, law enforcement officers uncovered the scheme, and now the businessman will face trial. He is charged with the following crimes:
-
Unauthorized occupation of land
-
Abuse of authority
-
Official document forgery
-
Laundering of proceeds of crime
The prosecutor's office sent the indictment to the court, and also filed a civil lawsuit for compensation for damages to the territorial community of Kyiv.
If the court finds the entrepreneur guilty, he faces a fine, restriction of liberty, or imprisonment for several years, and illegally constructed facilities may be demolished.
This case is another signal for business owners: an attempt to circumvent the law can result in criminal prosecution and the loss of all "gains.".
