The village of Slobidske of the Kharkiv district has become an object of danger due to a large-scale fire of dry vegetation, the State Emergency Service reported.
Located east of Kharkiv, Slobidske is next to the district road and the former home of more than a hundred people before the war.
The fire broke out on March 13 around 17:00, and favorable windy weather contributed to its rapid spread over a large area. Residents called for help only when the flames approached the residential buildings.
Arriving at the scene, the rescuers recorded the total area of the fire at 7 hectares. To eliminate the fire and save the village, 10 operational units from Kharkiv were called to help, which sent 10 fire trucks and more than 50 people. The constant fight against the fire lasted 13 hours.
After conducting an analysis, the State Emergency Service established that the fire was caused by the negligence of people who themselves burned garbage and dry vegetation last year.
"This is simply a crime committed by the citizens themselves, setting fire to their own environment. They may think it will help them manage their garden plots and the surrounding area. But they do not understand that in this way they are causing irreparable damage to the environment, destroying vegetation and animal life," the State Emergency Service noted.
Rescuers urge residents of Kharkiv region to refrain from burning garbage and dry vegetation.
