The average pension of judges has increased to 107 thousand hryvnias per month

While millions of Ukrainian pensioners receive payments that are barely sufficient to survive, Themida officials can afford to live on a wide foot. Over the last three years, the average pension of the judge has increased from 90 822 UAH to 107 040 UAH. And in five years - more than twice.

According to the Pension Fund, in 2020 the average payment for judges was 45 874 UAH. Now individual representatives of the judicial system may afford pension payments exceeding the salaries of ministers and even the president.

VIP-pensioners of Ukrainian justice

Among those who receive overhanging payments, including:

  • Bogdan Pog , the judge of the Supreme Court retired, receives a pension of UAH 262 thousand a year .
  • Angela Zhiznevskaya , ex-judge of the Zhytomyr Administrative Court of Appeal, received UAH 1.99 million , or UAH 166.4 thousand a month .
  • Vasyl Kovalenko , former deputy chairman of the Dniprovsky Court of Appeal, received UAH 2.05 million a pension per year, which is equal to UAH 170.8 thousand per month .

Recall that the average pension of the average Ukrainian is UAH 5.7 thousand , and the majority (6.4 million from 10.3 million pensioners) receive less than 5 thousand UAH per month .

Why do judges receive such pensions?

The amount of payments to the ex-judgments is determined by the formula according to which the minimum pension is 50% of the salary of the working judge . If the length of service exceeds 20 years, then another 2% . The maximum pension may not exceed 90% of the salary of the current judge .

In fact, this means that even a retired judge receives more than ministers, top officials and Generals of the Armed Forces.

The contrast between ordinary pensioners and "elite" judges is only growing. Ukrainians who have worked at factories, schools or hospitals all their lives are forced to survive on pennies. Meanwhile, judges, who often made scandalous decisions and became involved in corruption investigations, have lifelong financial support, which most citizens can only dream of.
