In Kiev, a lawsuit began over a 48-year-old local resident, who, using counterfeit documents, illegally inherited three apartments in the capital. The most cynical is that the suspect often acted as an expert from apartment scams, telling how to act not to be a victim of fraud.
The investigation found that the man falsified the wills and documents on the death of real homeowners, after which he appealed to the state bodies with statements on inheritance.
- In one of the cases, the fraudster fake the covenant of a single 70-year-old woman, a medical certificate of her death and other documents. On the basis of this, he issued a legacy and received the ownership of her apartment.
- However, the woman was alive, and only at the end of 2023 appealed to law enforcement officers to return her home.
- In the other two cases, the attacker tried to "inherit" apartments of dead persons without any confirmation of family ties.
It is interesting that the man has repeatedly participated in television broadcasts, telling how to protect himself from apartment scammers. As it turned out, he himself knew these schemes perfectly, because he used them in his own fraud.
At the moment, the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office has completed the investigation and was transferred to court. If his guilt is proven, the suspect faces up to 8 years in prison.
The process is ongoing, and investigators continue to check other possible crimes of the scammer.
