A new fraudulent scheme aimed at deceiving Ukrainians through the sale of military equipment at reduced prices has become active in the network. Criminals create fake ads for the sale of vehicles, drones and other military equipment, pretending to be representatives of charities that supposedly help the military. After people make payments, scammers block their contacts and disappear, leaving victims penniless.
"Criminals place advertisements on the most popular social networks and trading platforms about the possibility of buying such goods abroad and delivering them to Ukraine. The prices offered are much lower than market prices, and the low cost is explained by the support of well-known charitable organizations," the message reads.
According to information, criminals ask their victim to record a video thanking them for a "report" on the spending of charitable funds and to provide copies of identity documents. After transferring funds for a non-existent product, fraudsters ask for more money for customs clearance, insurance premiums or logistics costs, and then disappear and are blocked on social networks.
"The National Police urges citizens to be alert and attentive and in no case send money, personal data and documents to unverified persons, so as not to become victims of fraudsters," the law enforcement officers emphasized.
Fraudsters use artificial intelligence to clone victims' voices and trick their friends through instant messengers. State Special Communications recommends using two-factor authentication and verifying the identity of the interlocutor.
