Shakhtar Donetsk player Ivan Petryak has not yet played a single minute on the field for the first team in 2025. Despite this, he remains at the club, trains with the youth team and has no intention of terminating his contract. The reason is family.
In a comment to the Ukrainian Football publication, Petryak explained his decision: "I am 31 years old, I have a family, three small children. As a man, I have to earn money. I cannot allow them to ask: 'Dad, where are our yogurts?' Therefore... We need to somehow endure this difficult time, to sit it out. I cannot just take and terminate the contract with Shakhtar.".
According to the player, the club is fulfilling all its contractual obligations, and he, in turn, is fulfilling his. He hopes that the situation will change in the summer, when the transfer window opens.
"The summer transfer window is longer than the winter one, clubs spend more on equipment, so I hope some option will appear," Petryak noted.
Let us remind you that Ivan Petryak has previously played in the championships of Ukraine, Hungary and Russia, and is an experienced midfielder who can strengthen more than one club. However, his career has stalled recently - he lost his place in the starting lineup at Shakhtar, and at the age of 31, the prospects of returning to a high level are increasingly illusory.
