In Ukraine, there are ongoing discussions about lowering the mobilization age, because the younger generations, according to some politicians, have a greater potential to perform combat missions. People's deputy Oleksandr Yushchenko on the air of the program "News. LIVE" declared the necessity of this step, arguing it with the motivation of young people and their physical capabilities.
Oleksandr Yushchenko believes that the current mobilization system, which focuses on older people, should be revised. According to him, 45-year-old men, although motivated, face a number of difficulties, such as health problems and family responsibilities. Instead, younger people demonstrate greater combat readiness and ability to perform tasks.
"The best warriors are young people. They are the most motivated," Yushchenko emphasized.
He also mentioned evaders, noting that this phenomenon is the result of a 30-year failure of the state to convey to citizens the importance of protecting the country.
The discussion about the mobilization age continues not only on the sidelines of the Verkhovna Rada. People's Deputy Roman Kostenko, secretary of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, also supports the idea of lowering the mobilization age. He proposes to start mobilization from the age of 20, not from 25, as now.
"We must fill the troops with younger people. In our country, you can become a deputy and make difficult decisions from the age of 21, and fight - from the age of 25. This is illogical," said Kostenko.
Ukraine's international partners do not remain aloof. According to Serhiy Leshchenko, adviser to the head of the President's Office, the United States of America put pressure on President Volodymyr Zelensky, demanding a reduction in the conscription age. However, the President of Ukraine did not give in to these demands and continues to negotiate with American politicians regarding further military aid without changing the conscription age.
