On July 15, the Orthodox believers honor the memory of the Holy Apostle Prince Vladimir the Great. It is on this day in Ukraine that now celebrate the Day of Baptism of Russia , dedicated to the decision of Prince Vladimir, which became a turning point in history: the introduction of Christianity as a state religion contributed to the development of writing, culture and civilizational choice of Ukraine.

The old style is mentioned on this day, the laying of the fair risk of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Vlahern, which is honored as a holiday of protection of the city and faith.

Also on July 15, prominent Ukrainians were born, including journalist, publicist and politician Vladimir Martynets and the famous feminist and public figure Milena Rudnitskaya.

International events

At the international level on July 15, it is the World Youth Skill Day , introduced by the UN. Its purpose is to draw attention to the problem of unemployment among young people and to encourage employers to invest in young professionals.

Also on July 15 - the birthday of a number of famous figures: Rembrandt artist Van Rhine, philosopher Jacques Derrida, writer Iris Irdok, as well as the actors of Forrest Vitker and Diana Kruger.

People's holiday

On the folk calendar, this day was part of the summer, when the peasants were actively harvesting, dug first young potatoes, looked after cattle. The youth at this time sought to find a couple and get to the beginning of the harvest.

One of the traditional rituals of the day was the sprinkling of the native water by the holy water, which symbolizes the purification and imitates the baptism. According to the belief, such a ritual gives happiness for the whole year.

According to folk signs and church customs, this day is forbidden:

  • miss or complain about life;

  • work on the ground, especially with sharp tools;

  • engage in cleaning;

  • Drink alcohol.

Also pay attention to folk signs:

  • If the water in the river blooms - wait for the heat;

  • yellow leaves on trees - until early autumn;

  • Many viburnum - winter will be harsh;

  • Evening fog is a sign of rain.
