According to the new style, on January 9, the memory of the martyr Polyeuktus and the miracle worker Eustratius is commemorated. According to the old calendar, on this day, Orthodox believers celebrate the feast of the Apostle Stephen, which in Ukraine is also called Stepan's Day.

There are no official national holidays on January 9, but according to folk tradition, this day is dedicated to honoring St. Stephen. Since ancient times in Ukraine, on this day there was a custom to take care of horses: their manes were braided, they were fed with treats and they were drunk with holy water.
