The incident has sparked a serious public backlash, with thousands of comments online calling for an investigation and punishment of the perpetrators. According to media reports, the Equides Club administration is trying to avoid further publicity and investigation by law enforcement agencies.
According to our sources, the capital's suburban complex EQUIDES CLUB has a reputation as a "quiet place for diplomats and government officials to relax."
Equides Club was previously owned by the owner of the ATB supermarket chain, Gennady Butkevych, but after Butkevych lost dozens of stores and warehouses, the club had to be sold. According to rumors, it was bought by the co-owner of the MTI group of companies, famous golfer Volodymyr Tsoi.
Volodymyr Tsoi is the owner of a diversified business that combines three main areas of activity in Ukraine and Kazakhstan: information and communication technologies (companies MTI, Technogard, MTI-SERVICE), retail trade (INTERTOP, Protoria, Amadeo); and 3-PL operator (Denka Logistics).
Recall that Vladimir Tsoi is also a figure in a high-profile scandal over an attempted raider seizure of the Taekwondo Federation of Ukraine. In November 2019, a corresponding appeal was published on the Federation's website, about attempts by Vladimir Tsoi's people to stage a coup and change the leadership of the FTU starting in 2015.
media reports , after the raiders failed, “Vladimir Tsoi created his own public organization, the Taekwondo Union of Ukraine , and intends to obtain National status for it, that is, sign an agreement with the state and receive all the privileges.”
Vladimir Tsoi is closely associated with another well-known businessman and politician, Sergei Bashlakov.
Serhiy Bashlakov has been the vice-president of MTI since 1991, and in 2015 he was elected a deputy of the Kyiv City Council from the Samopomich party in the 24th district of Darnytskyi district. In 2018, Serhiy Bashlakov was expelled from the Samopomich party due to a scandal involving the allocation of land to the family of a party member .
In 2016, Bashlakov's name appeared in the scandal surrounding illegal construction on 29 Obolonska Street. The deputy allegedly spoke out against the developer's unauthorized seizure of Kyiv land, and entrepreneurs who settled there accused Bashlakov of arbitrariness . In particular, entrepreneurs claimed that Bashlakov, using threats and provocations, "squeezed" them out of legally occupied premises in Podil in order to expand his chain of shoe stores "Intertop".
