What affects the level of teachers' salaries

In Ukraine, teachers' salaries vary depending on the type of educational institution, region and other factors. The average salary of teachers in public schools is from 10 to 15 thousand hryvnias per month, while in private schools it is higher - 20-25 thousand hryvnias under the condition of full workload. Teachers with years of experience and additional responsibilities can earn more.

In public educational institutions, the salary level depends on the following factors:

  1. Experience - Teachers with more experience can earn higher salaries due to higher pay scales.
  2. Class management — additional payments are provided for the performance of the duties of a class leader.
  3. Additional payments for the prestige of the profession - in some regions, local authorities provide additional payments to teachers.
  4. City budgets — teachers in large cities, such as Kyiv and Lviv, often receive additional bonuses or supplements.

According to the comment of teacher Artur Proydakov, the winner of the Global Teacher Prize Ukraine 2021, if a teacher works full-time, has experience and additional responsibilities, his salary can vary between 10-15 thousand hryvnias in public schools.

The situation looks better in private schools. Here, the average salary of a teacher is 20-25 thousand hryvnias under the condition of a full workload. Private educational institutions usually offer competitive wages to attract qualified professionals. In addition, teachers can participate in various extracurricular projects, Olympiads or competitions, which provides an opportunity to earn extra.

The salary of teachers also depends on the place of work. In large cities, teachers receive more thanks to bonuses and extra payments from local budgets, while in smaller settlements salaries are often lower due to limited resources from local budgets.
