Since February 10, several Ukrainian cities of the school have been switching to distance learning. The reasons for this decision are the rapid increase in the number of cases of acute respiratory viral infections (SARS) and to obtain anonymous threats to students' safety.
The authorities report that in the last week the number of visits to doctors due to SARS symptoms increased by 20.4%. In total, more than 1500 cases have been recorded. Because of this, all schools, including art and sports facilities, will work in online format by February 21.
At the same time, kindergartens will continue to work in normal mode.
In Poltava, the situation was complicated by obtaining emails with threats. The reports mentioned possible terrorist attacks, "massacre" and shooting. Although official information from law enforcement agencies has not been made public, local authorities have decided not to risk.
All communal ownership schools in Poltava were transferred to distance learning to ensure the safety of children and to avoid disruption of the educational process.
In addition to the virus and threats, the authorities call low temperatures and possible difficulty with evacuation additional risks to children's health.
The decision to transfer schools to an online format has been an ambiguous reaction. Most parents support such measures by considering them necessary for the safety of children. Social networks are actively discussing the situation, including threats in Poltava, which are alarming among parents and educators.
While the situation with the epidemic and threats remains uncertain, the students will continue their studies at home and the authorities will keep the situation under control.
