Shmyhal calls for urgent meeting with international donors

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has called on international donors to hold an urgent meeting due to the "high level of uncertainty" in the country's finances.

In his letter to the Interagency Donor Coordination Group, which oversees the use of funds, Shmyhal stressed the need for next month's funding to address Ukraine's basic financial needs. "To ensure macroeconomic stability, it is crucial to have sufficient, rapid, and predictable external financial support starting in January 2024," the letter stressed.

According to Shmyhal, the Multi-Donor Coordination Platform (MDCP) should focus on immediate budgetary needs, in particular, providing support to the government for social payments, payments to teachers and civil servants. “We cannot consider reconstruction projects when we have to decide on survival priorities for 2024,” the head of government added.

It is currently unknown how the recipients reacted to the letter, and whether they agreed to an urgent meeting.
