Ukrainian serviceman Volodymyr Tsema-Bursov, who was held in captivity, lost a significant part of his weight in 20 months, from 95 kilograms to 57 kilograms. After the large exchange of prisoners on January 3, Volodymyr returned home, but remains under medical supervision due to a number of illnesses he acquired while in prison, as well as due to the deterioration of his physical condition.
Previously, he was a musician, but joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, serving in the 56th separate motorized infantry brigade of Mariupol. In November 2019, when the conflict in Donbas escalated again, Volodymyr went to the front.
During the defense of Mariupol, when the city was shelled, Volodymyr and his unit were at the school, where he worked in the kitchen and performed guard duty. They were later scattered, and Volodymyr was captured while trying to get out of the territory controlled by Russian troops.
For 45 days, Volodymyr was in various places of detention, where he was systematically beaten. He lost much of his weight and developed a number of serious illnesses during his captivity.
After his release, Volodymyr was treated at a medical facility in Poltava Region, where serious health problems were discovered, such as chronic gastritis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and others. He remains under medical supervision and is trying to recover his health after the harsh conditions of imprisonment.
