In the northern direction of the Kharkiv region, shelling has increased, mainly directed at the city of Vovchansk. As a result, the evacuation of the city has begun.
Citing information from Telegram of the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleg Synegubov, reports intensive shelling from KABs, MLRS and artillery throughout the night. Russian troops also tried unsuccessfully to break through the border with the help of sabotage and reconnaissance groups.
“The Armed Forces of Ukraine firmly hold their positions and do not retreat. Not a single meter of territory has been lost. There is no potential threat to Kharkiv, and enemy forces are limited only to provocations in the north,” the head of the Kharkiv OVA emphasized.
He also emphasized that all government structures are working and fulfilling their duties.
“We urge residents of border areas to seek refuge, as the enemy makes no difference who to attack: military infrastructure or unarmed civilians,” Sinegubov added.
Meanwhile, the head of the Vovchansk Military Administration, Tamaz Gambarashvili, reported that the city of Vovchansk has been under intense shelling for the third night in a row.
“It’s hard to say where exactly the shelling is coming from. There is no border crossing (from the Russian side – it is noted). … We are engaged in evacuation. There are no children in the city anymore,” Gambarashvili said.
The possibility of a second Russian offensive on Kharkiv has been actively discussed online over the past month. The Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasize that the occupiers lack sufficient strength to capture one of Ukraine's largest cities.
According to the Main Intelligence Directorate, the Russian army may prepare an offensive on Kharkiv and Sumy as early as the beginning of summer.
Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavlyuk, Commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, confirmed the possibility of a Russian offensive on Kharkiv and Sumy, noting that it is not yet known how serious these plans are.
