A tragic incident occurred on Saturday night in the Haisyn district of Vinnytsia region: two people wearing military-style clothing opened fire on patrol officers who stopped their car. The incident resulted in the death of a 20-year-old police officer and the injury of his colleague.
The police are actively searching for the perpetrators in Vinnytsia and Odessa regions. Operational services have already identified individuals who are likely involved in this crime.
A video from a gas station's surveillance cameras is circulating on social media, showing the attackers dressed in olive-green clothing typical of Ukrainian military personnel. It is also noted that the car they were driving was of a similar color.
Police confirm the authenticity of the posts posted on social media showing the suspects. They show people dressed in uniforms that look like military uniforms. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether they are real servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - this information is still being verified.
Military-like uniforms can be purchased in specialized stores, so the wearing of similar clothing by civilians is no exception.
The suspects' car was stopped in the middle of the night for a check, a police source said. "It was a standard check of a car that took place at night. But the suspects opened fire," the spokesman added.
The search for the perpetrators continues. “Regardless of who, in what form, in what situation, and for what motives, this crime cannot be justified,” stressed Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.
“The tragic event reflects that even while remaining in the rear, police officers cannot rest from the threat,” he added.
