On January 3, another tragedy occurred in the city of Kolomyia, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, when an entire family, including two children, suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning. Four victims, including children born in 2010 and 2019, were hospitalized in Kolomyia district hospitals.
According to preliminary information from the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, the cause of the incident was a malfunction of a gas boiler. It is known that carbon monoxide is one of the most common causes of poisoning in households where gas boilers, stoves or fireplaces are used.
Carbon monoxide is odorless and colorless, so it can accumulate indoors without any obvious signs. This makes it particularly insidious and dangerous. Even a small amount of carbon monoxide entering the body can lead to serious poisoning or even death.
Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headache, nausea, rapid breathing, weakness, dizziness, fatigue, and even loss of consciousness. If poisoning is suspected, it is necessary to ensure that the victim has access to fresh air and immediately call an ambulance.
Rescuers emphasize the importance of using special carbon monoxide detectors. These devices instantly respond to an increased level of carbon monoxide in a room and emit an audible signal, allowing you to take the necessary measures in a timely manner. The cost of such detectors starts at 200 UAH, and they can be an important investment for family safety.
Remember: carbon monoxide is an invisible but deadly threat, and it is not something to joke with.
