Scandalous Ukrainian singer Ani Lorak, who has lived and worked in Russia for many years, has allegedly officially become a citizen of the Russian Federation, Russian propaganda media reported, citing her entourage.
According to their data, back in February 2023, the singer submitted documents for citizenship. And on June 9, 2024, according to sources, Lorak already received a Russian passport. There is currently no public confirmation from the singer herself - she does not comment on the news about the change of citizenship.
However, such a step seems quite expected. In 2023, Ani Lorak will turn 45, so if she has an old-style passport, she would have to paste a new photo or apply for an ID card. Due to the absence of a Ukrainian embassy in Russia after the start of a full-scale war, it was impossible to do this on the territory of the Russian Federation. She also did not apply abroad to resolve the issue of documents.
Ani Lorak has long been associated with Russian show business. She continued to work in Russia after 2014, despite the war in Donbas and the annexation of Crimea. With the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, her position also did not change: she did not publicly condemn the aggression, but continues to perform on Russian stages and communicate with figures close to the Kremlin.
In October 2022, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine imposed sanctions against Ani Lorak. The reason was her open disregard for Russian aggression, support for the occupying country, and continued activities on the territory of a state waging war against Ukraine.
