Singer Svetlana Loboda, who left Russia after the full-scale Russian invasion and condemned the aggression, has repeatedly been involved in language scandals because she continues to sing in Russian and communicate in it at concerts.
This time, the incident happened in Batumi, where the artist met with Ukrainian fans. When she learned that the fans were from her native Irpen, she immediately switched to Ukrainian and asked why they didn't speak it, adding: " It's cool to speak our language ."
Fans responded that they could easily communicate in Ukrainian. A video of the conversation appeared on Loboda's fan account, but caused a mixed reaction online.
Users were outraged that the artist was making remarks, as she herself continues to sing and blog in Russian. Others were annoyed that she first spoke to fans in Russian, and only then switched to Ukrainian, which made her words seem inappropriate.
