The Russians partially control Berdychi and Tonenke, but their advance in the Avdiivka direction has been stopped, said Dmitry Likhovy, spokesman for the Tavria operational-strategic group of troops, during a telethon.
Earlier, Bild analyst Julian Röpke reported that, according to him, the Russian army partially controls Berdychi, the southern part of Orlivka, and part of Tonenkoye. And along the line of these three villages, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to build and hold a new line of defense.
It should be noted that, according to a number of media outlets and experts, Ukraine actually intends to build a defense line not in Orlivka and Tonenkoye, but a little further away - on the opposite bank of the reservoirs. In this case, persistent defense in these villages may be an attempt to buy time to establish positions.
As for Berdychiv, they are more important than Orlivka and Tonenke, as they are located on the flank of the new proposed defense line. And if the village is taken, the Russians will be able to continue their offensive on the opposite bank of the reservoir and prevent the Ukrainian Armed Forces from gaining a foothold there.
Also of great importance for the further course of the fighting around Avdiivka will be the situation around Ocheretyne, located northwest of Avdiivka on a dominant height. Ocheretyne is currently controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but is subject to massive Russian shelling.
