During the full-scale war in Ukraine, when most citizens are trying to survive and adapt to new conditions, 13 people became owners of Rolls-Royce Specter - the first electric car of this legendary brand. Each of these cars costs more than €600,000, and this caused a public outcry against the backdrop of economic difficulties in the country.
Specter is a novelty from Rolls-Royce, which appeared in 2023. This car cannot simply be bought in a showroom, and even more so one could not imagine buying it during the war. Those who wanted to become the owners of this expensive electric car had to line up and wait for their car.
According to the law enforcement officers, among the new owners of Rolls-Royce Specter in Ukraine are a number of influential people, in particular, People's Deputy Hennadiy Vatsak, who has two such cars registered to other people. According to the media, businessman Mykhailo Bakunenko is also the owner of one of these electric cars registered at Energohub LLC. In addition, among the owners were ex-Nardeput Vitaly Khomutynnik, who has not returned to Ukraine since the beginning of the war, as well as several businessmen and high-ranking officials.
This information caused outrage among the citizens, because the war continues in the country, and the elite continue to spend huge sums on luxury purchases. Owners of the Rolls-Royce Specter became a symbol of the social gap that became increasingly visible between the rich and the poor during the war.
While most Ukrainians are struggling, many of these individuals have not only bought luxury cars, but also raised questions about the origin of their wealth. In a situation where the country is in a state of war, such luxury looks particularly contradictory and highlights the huge inequality in society.
