The Slovak National Party (SNS) made a statement that Slovakia has the right to demand from Ukraine the financial compensation for the assistance provided during the war. This was reported by the director of the office of the chairman of the party Zuzan Shkoptsov, referring to the Slovak edition of Teraz.sk .
The Party called on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo to bring this issue to the nearest meeting of the European Council. SNS believe that the EU should recognize the right of Slovakia to a share in Ukrainian natural resources, in particular - mineral wealth.
"If Ukraine has already signed an agreement with the United States, which provides for compensation for military assistance, it is not clear why it does not commit to European countries," Shkopttsova said.
The party reminded that the volume of assistance to Ukraine from Slovakia has already exceeded three billion euros. Now SNS insists that these costs are offset - at least partially.
Party Chairman Andrey Danko stated that on May 26, he should discuss this issue with Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenitsky. They plan to prepare appropriate calculations and document the prime minister.
According to SNS, since Ukraine, according to the latest agreements with the United States, has already undertaken to return some of the US assistance, similar obligations should be to the EU countries. The party believes that Fitzo should publicly break this topic at the EU leadership level.
This statement is potential political resonance: at a time when the Ukrainian army continues to restrain Russian aggression, some of the European political forces seeks to translate humanitarian and military support into the field of financial claims.
