The Ukrainian military is extremely short of artillery shells, and it is noted that only the United States among the countries of the free democratic world has sufficient reserves. Former company commander of the Aidar battalion Yevhen Dykyi spoke about this, commenting on a Bloomberg article about a letter from the Ukrainian Defense Minister to EU countries calling for more. It is noted that the Europeans actually do not have such reserves.
Dyky noted that only the United States has a large number of shells, but these reserves are currently blocked by the policies of former President Trump. Depending on how the situation develops in the US Congress, Ukraine will have to choose between two different scenarios.
The first scenario assumes the resumption of ammunition supplies from the US, if Republicans and Democrats agree on funding within a month. In this case, an offensive strategy will be necessary in Ukraine. Despite the difficulties faced by the Armed Forces in late 2023, and the fact that the Russian army is significantly depleted, Ukraine can launch active military operations using the incoming shells.
The second scenario involves a complete blockade of aid from the Trumpists, which will lead to the fact that the Ukrainian defense forces will be forced to switch to defensive tactics. In this case, it will be necessary to ensure the security of the front line, maximally hindering Russian attacks. At the same time, Ukraine will need to take measures to extract the maximum amount of money to finance military operations. Such funds will be used to produce its own ammunition and search for opportunities to purchase ammunition around the world.
Within a month, it will be decided which of these plans will be implemented by Ukraine, depending on the political situation in the United States.
