On June 18, the newlylanian calendar of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine honors the memory of the martyrs of Leonti, Ipatia and the feudula. All three lived in the 1st century, served in the Roman army and received a martyrdom for the Christian faith.
Leonti was a Christian and converted others to faith. He was seized, but after the healing of one of the guards prayer, Ipatius and Feodule was also believed. They were executed for refusing to renounce Christ.
The church considers them the patrons of the military, and on this day they especially pray for Ukrainian defenders, for the strength of spirit, protection and assistance in trials.
Yarilin Day in the People's Calendar
In the Ukrainian tradition, on June 18, Yarillin is called the day, in honor of the pagan deity, Yaril - the embodiment of the sun, warmth and vitality. There was a belief that at this time the sun shines brightest, and you can even see the "other edge of the world."
