Today, Ukrainians and residents of other countries remember religious traditions, historical events, and also celebrate several interesting international and national holidays. This day is marked by both church commemoration and secular dates that have become significant for history, culture, and ecology.
Church holiday
According to the new church calendar, July 5 is the day of memory of the holy Monk Athanasius of Athos. He was born around 920 in the city of Trebizond (modern Turkey), received the name Abraham and from childhood strove for spirituality. He studied in Constantinople, and later chose the monastic path. It was he who founded the Great Lavra on Mount Athos - the first organized monastery, which became a model for others. Athanasius died during an accident during the construction of the temple.
On this day, it is not recommended to start important matters, ignore the requests of loved ones, or work in the fields after lunch - it is believed that this can bring bad luck or incur the saint's wrath. The people also called this day Athanasius of the Coming, because it was on this day that the harvest usually began.
