A sweet life for Ukrainians will become unaffordable

The Government of Ukraine is considering the possibility of introducing an excise tax on drinks containing sweeteners within the next three years, according to the budget declaration for 2025-2027. This move by the government is part of the national revenue strategy until 2030, aimed at reforming tax policy and increasing state budget revenues.

During these three years, the state is going to implement measures to reform tax policy and tax administration, provided for by the National Revenue Strategy until 2030. An excise tax on sugar-sweetened beverages is one of them.

The Ministry of Health supports the introduction of the excise tax, believing that "constant consumption of sweet carbonated drinks leads to the development of diabetes, the appearance of excess weight, obesity."
