The eldest son of the frontman of the band "Druha Rika" Valeriy Kharchyshin - 27-year-old Dmytro - is currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a sapper. The artist spoke about this in an interview with the publication "Apostrophe", sharing his family's personal war story.
Kharchyshyn admitted that his son had neither military training nor a desire to connect his life with the army. On the contrary, after completing his studies at the Faculty of Philosophy, Dmytro considered the possession of weapons to be “human stupidity” that leads to destruction. However, from the first months of the full-scale invasion, the boy voluntarily joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“He didn’t dream of becoming a soldier, he neglected weapons… But one way or another he went to fight. He is a sapper, he served in the northern direction. Now he is taking officer courses and training other sappers,” Valeriy said.
In addition to his worries about his son, the frontman of "Druha Rika" noted that the war took many people from his personal circle.
“My son went to fight with his friend, who died. It was very painful. My brother, who was mobilized, is no longer fighting – he was seriously wounded. There were many losses among acquaintances, neighbors, classmates,” admits Kharchyshyn.
Today, Dmytro continues his service, in a new role - training other servicemen to perform dangerous demining tasks. And his father, a musician and volunteer, continues to support the defenders, using the stage as a platform to help the army and spread the truth about the war.
