Law enforcement officers have stopped the activities of a group that was involved in the illegal trafficking of weapons and ammunition in Ukraine. The organizer of the group, a resident of Poltava region, was informed of the suspicion.
According to the National Police, operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department received information about the activities of a group that organized the sale of captured and lost firearms during hostilities. Under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General's Office, criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives).
During the documentation of the facts of criminal activity, the sale of 12 automatic weapons and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition was recorded. The total value of the seized items is estimated at 820,000 hryvnias.
With the support of the KORD special unit and the police of Kyiv and Poltava regions, a series of authorized searches were conducted at the residences and in the cars of the group members in the capital, Poltava and Kyiv regions. During the searches, a large arsenal was seized: 48 Kalashnikov assault rifles, 26 Makarov pistols, 4 machine guns, 4 grenade launchers with 31 shots, 8 mines, 76 grenades, about 26,000 rounds of various calibers, fuses, detonators, almost 21 kg of explosives, silencers, smoke bombs, bayonet knives, equipped magazines, as well as over 3,000 euros and a car.
The seized weapons have been sent for examination. The organizer has been detained in accordance with the procedural procedure, and investigative actions are ongoing to identify and hold accountable all members of the group.
