The Trump administration promotes the initiative of a new peaceful settlement of war in Ukraine, which envisages ceasefire and actual recognition of Russian control over temporarily occupied territories, including Crimea. About it reports CNN with reference to sources familiar with the details of the negotiations.
According to information, the agreement was presented last Thursday in Paris to representatives of European countries and Ukraine. The main idea of the document is to "freeze" the front line, terminate the fighting and fix the current status of territories under the control of the Russian Federation. Including the Crimean Peninsula, which the United States is allegedly ready to declare Russian within a potential agreement.
At the same time, journalists note that such proposals are unlikely to find support in Kiev. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has declared that Ukraine does not recognize any occupied territories in Russian - a clear "red line", for which Kiev is not ready to go.
The proposal was already transferred to Moscow by phone during a conversation by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. However, there are no final arrangements at this time. According to CNN sources, the discussion will continue next week in London with the participation of European partners and the Ukrainian side.
In addition, another separate meeting is planned between Trump's Special Representative in the Middle East Steve Witcoff and Russian representatives for further advancement of framework agreements.
We will remind, in the center of counteraction of misinformation called the Easter "truce", initiated by Russia, another information operation aimed at misleading the United States. President Zelensky also criticized Putin's initiative, calling her an "attempt to play people's lives."
