US Presidential Administration Donald Trump has made a decision that can greatly accelerate the transfer of additional Patriot Air Defense Systems to Ukraine. According to the Wall Street Journal with reference to US officials, the United States moved Germany in front of Switzerland in the queue for new air defense systems.
This decision enables Berlin to transfer two existing Patriots to the Ukrainian forces faster - this was what was the German government, which previously stated that he was ready to transfer the systems of Kiev immediately after receiving new installations from the United States.
The Switzerland government has already confirmed that Washington has really changed priorities in the export of land air defense systems to “strengthen Ukraine's support”. Earlier, Switzerland acquired five Patriots systems with planned deliveries in 2026–2028, but now this schedule was in question.
This is the first case after Donald Trump's return to an active political role, when the US administration actually helps to accelerate weapons supply to Ukraine. Although there is no official confirmation of this decision, Reuters notes that the very fact of viewing the queue is already recognized by the Swiss authorities.
The US Special Representative to NATO Matthew Witaker has confirmed that Washington is working on accelerating the supply of weapons within the new Trump plan: it envisages the active participation of European allies in the purchase and transfer of weapons to Kiev.
Earlier, the sources in the German government reported Bild, which was considered the option in which the United States transfers the Patriot systems to Ukraine from their reserves, and Germany compensates for their value. However, Trump has vetoed it: he stated that the US Army could not give any installation, and allies in Europe should provide Ukraine with its own arsenals.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has recently assured that Ukraine would receive Patriot "in the coming weeks". If Washington's decision is confirmed, it will be the first large -scale military step in Trump's new administration in support of Kiev.
