Ukraine is preparing for the probable cessation of supply of air defense systems from the United States. This was stated by Presidential Advisor on Strategic Issues Alexander Kamyshin in a comment to Radio Liberty during a Globsec conference in the Czech Republic.
Kamyshin reacted to the words of Pentagon Peta Hegset, who the day before he announced the reduction in the cost of military assistance to Ukraine in the US defense budget for 2026. According to the clarification of the Associated Press , it may mean restriction or complete termination of the supply of critical air defense systems.
"We are in the greatest generations, and in this war, no country will be handled against Russia by our own. Therefore, both Europe and the United States of America are important to us," Kamyshin said.
According to him, the Ukrainian government considers the possibility of replacing critical weapons, including air defense, but recognizes that finding a full alternative to American systems will be extremely difficult. "The whole team is working today to ensure that these decisions are found," the presidential adviser said.
The secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Roman Kostenko also commented on Hegset's statement. In his opinion, she was not a surprise. Kostenko emphasized that with the arrival of Donald Trump, the United States did not actually approve new decisions on assistance - Ukraine was only conveyed to Ukraine that it was regulated by Biden's administration.
People's Deputy added that the most important thing is that there is no complete ban on the sale of weapons, even if military assistance as such is reduced.
Ukraine finds itself in an conditions where it is necessary to develop strategies for survival without guarantees of stable support from one of the key allies.
