The United States is sending more than 500 Patriot missile defense and NASAMS interceptor missiles to Ukraine, according to The Wall Street Journal. The deliveries are expected to take place in the coming weeks and will help strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities.
These missiles will be an important element in countering Russian missile attacks and improving the air defense system. According to statements by American officials, these deliveries should meet Ukraine's air defense needs until the end of 2024.
Currently, more than $7 billion in Pentagon military aid to Ukraine remains unused, while more than $2 billion has been allocated for long-term defense contracts.
These deliveries are part of the Biden administration's strategy to strengthen Ukraine's defense position ahead of possible negotiation processes that may be initiated after January 2024. US government officials plan to complete the transfer of the remaining military assistance by April next year, seeking to give Ukraine a stronger negotiating position.
