Anatoliy Stavitsky, the father of former Minister of Energy of Ukraine Edward Stavitsky, requires the return of 48 kilograms of gold, which was removed within the framework of the investigation of the case "Mezhigiri". It became known from the decision of the Vyshgorod district court of Kyiv region of March 28.
Back in December 2024, Stavitsky-Sr. appealed to the court for termination of measures to ensure criminal proceedings and return of property, which, according to him, belongs to him personally-gold ingots with a total weight of more than 48 kilograms. The ingots are currently stored in Ukreximbank as material evidence.
The court requires information from the National Bank about the fate of gold
In early March, Stavitsky's lawyer also filed a request for the demand of documents and things from the National Bank of Ukraine. He requested the court to support the requirement to return the seized property, or, in the absence of it, to compensate for its value.
However, the prosecutor categorically denied the satisfaction of the petition. According to him, gold in the ingots was sold through the state repository of precious metals, and the proceeds have already been received to the general fund of the state budget. Thus, the state believes that Stavitsky has no legal grounds for claiming this property.
The court has now made an intermediate decision - to claim the National Bank information whether gold is still stored and to find out its market value. These data will be used in the further consideration of the possible compensation.
Stavitsky's case is closed in terms of limitation
We will remind, in June 2024 the Vyshgorod District Court closed the case against Edward Stavitsky, who was accused of assisting the residence of "Mezhigiri" by the then President Viktor Yanukovych. The case was stopped due to the expiration of the limitation period.
After the closure of the criminal proceedings, arrests on the property of the relatives of Stavitsky were canceled. This is what allowed him to initiate the process of returning the values removed during the active investigation.
Stavitsky received Israeli citizenship and changed his last name
Edward Stavitsky disappeared from Ukraine after the Dignity Revolution in 2014. He went to Israel, where he received local citizenship and changed his name to Rosenberg. According to the media, Stavitsky lives in the elite suburb of Tel Aviv-Kfar Schmariaag. Despite many years of search, it was after the closing of the case on the limitation period that he appeared on a video communication with the court to confirm his right to return the seized property.
