During a speech in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Minister of Education Oksen Lisovyi drew attention to a disturbing trend: more and more students in grades 10-11, especially boys, are leaving the country. This situation is caused by a number of factors that require urgent discussion and resolution.
"Regarding departure. I share your concern. We are observing how many children in grades 10-11, especially boys, are leaving abroad. We encourage them to stay in Ukraine in various ways," Lisovyi said.
The minister believes that quality education can force children to stay in warring Ukraine.
He says that Western universities that Ukrainians enter are no better than domestic ones, and that Western education in general is largely "mythologized.".
Let us remind you that boys must register for military service from the age of 17. The Cabinet also proposes to fine them if they do not do so. And from the age of 18, boys can no longer travel abroad.
Therefore, many parents try to send their sons abroad before they turn 18 or even 17. Hence the large outflow of boys from high school, which the Minister of Education speaks about.
