Students of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Journalism of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv have been actively advocating for the resignation of prominent professor Mykyta Vasylenko, who is accused of sexist statements and pro-Russian views. According to them, the professor systematically makes derogatory remarks about female students and campaigns for joining the banned Ukrainian party OPZZH.
This information was provided by Oksana Parashchak, a student and military service member, who is acting as a speaker.
Earlier this year, students complained to the institute's leadership about the professor's behavior, but the response was only a reprimand without further action to dismiss him from his position. They then appealed to the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, who opened a working group to consider the case.
The working group, formed by the decision of the permanent commission of the Academic Council of Kyiv National University named after Shevchenko on ethics, recognized the facts of violations of ethical norms and noted that the university management's approach to this situation led to reputational losses for the institution. The professor has now been reprimanded, but students continue to insist on his dismissal.
One of the active participants in this initiative is student and military serviceman Oksana Paraschak, who emphasizes that such behavior by the professor is unacceptable, especially in the context of the military conflict with Russia and the fight for gender equality.
The institute's administration is currently refraining from officially responding to these accusations. It should be noted that Mykyta Vasylenko is the father of the famous Ukrainian journalist Sonya Koshkina.
