The former judge of the Dniprovsky District Court of Kyiv Mykola Chaus is currently serving a sentence in the Minsk Correctional Colony No. 91. He was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison for extorting and receiving an undue benefit of $ 150,000.
The scandalous case of Chaus has become one of the loudest corruption stories of the Ukrainian judicial system. In 2016, he got on a bribe, which he hid in banks buried in his own garden. It was these actions that became a symbol of the absurdity and cynicism of corrupt judicial power. Investigators subsequently got containers with money, which became proof in the case.
After exposing, Chaus was outside Ukraine for a long time, in Moldova. In 2021 he was mysteriously appeared on the territory of Ukraine, and later detained. The court found Chaus guilty of bribery and imposed a real punishment.
As it became known, Chaus tried to get a temporary return to the Kiev pre -trial detention center, but was refused. He was left in the Minsk colony, where he continues to serve his sentence.
