People's deputy Andrii Nikolayenko became a participant in the legal process in connection with a fatal accident in the Zhytomyr region. The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) completed the investigation of this event and sent the materials of the indictment to the court. The incident occurred on the Kyiv-Chop highway in the Zhytomyr district around ten in the morning on November 3, 2023.
According to the SBI, a car driven by a people's deputy collided with a pedestrian. The investigation showed that the driver violated traffic rules by exceeding the speed limit. In particular, it was established that surveillance cameras recorded a speed limit of 40-50 km/h, including the area of the settlement where the accident occurred. This was confirmed by a phototechnical examination.
According to the DBR, an 18-year-old resident of the village was running across the road when she was hit by a car. The driver, breaking the speed limit, did not take sufficient measures to reduce the speed or stop the vehicle, which led to the tragedy. The girl died on the spot.
The investigation noted that if the driver had obeyed the traffic rules and braked in time, the fatal accident could have been avoided.
It is reported that the driver was previously brought to administrative responsibility for violating the speed limit 22 times during 2022-2023.
Currently, the People's Deputy is accused of violating traffic safety rules, which led to the death of a pedestrian, which is a criminal offense according to Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This violation is punishable by imprisonment for up to 8 years.
