The Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Police and the Prosecutor General's Office have solved the murder of former deputy mayor of Kamianskyi Oleksandr Plahotnik. A 54-year-old local resident is suspected of committing the crime, who, according to the investigation, killed the official because he refused to repay a debt.
The crime was committed on March 28. The suspect arrived at the victim's house, where he fired at least 10 shots from a firearm. Plahotnik died on the spot from his injuries.
As investigators established, the attacker had been following the former deputy mayor for several months: studying his travel routes, collecting information, and even installing video cameras near his home. After the murder, the attacker burned the car he was using for surveillance and fled to the Lviv region.
The suspect was detained the very next day, March 29. During a search of his apartment, law enforcement officers found an arsenal: weapons, ammunition, an F-1 grenade with a fuse, electronic media, phones, and camouflage clothing.
According to preliminary information, the main motive for the murder was the suspect's financial obligations to Plahotnik, which he did not want to fulfill. This was the reason for the careful preparation and audacious crime.
On April 1, the attacker was informed of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - premeditated murder for selfish motives (clause 6, part 2, article 115) and illegal handling of weapons (part 1, article 263).
The suspect currently faces 10 to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing.
