On Saturday, April 26, according to the new church calendar, the believers honors the Holy Martyr Vasily, Bishop of Amassia, and Glafir Amassian Virgin. Also today the Orthodox celebrate the Saturday - the final day of Easter week.
Since 2023, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine has switched to a new calendar style, so the non -transitional holidays have shifted 13 days earlier. At the same time, some believers continue to adhere to the old style.
Who is honored on April 26:
The Holy Martyr Vasily lived in the IV century in Asia Minor. He defended Christians from the persecution of the Emperor Licinia. Basil sheltered the Virgin Glafir, who ran away from persecution, helped her build a temple, but because of the denunciation of both they were called to the emperor. Glafira died on the way, and Vasily was executed for refusing to renounce the faith.
The old style is also mentioned today by the Holy Martyr Artemon.
