On February 6, Orthodox believers in Ukraine, according to the new church calendar, remember the Reverend Vukola, Bishop of Smyrna, who was a disciple of the holy Apostle John the Theologian. This holiday is full of both church and folk traditions, signs, and prohibitions.
Venerable Vukol: patron of health and family happiness
Saint Vukol was the first bishop of the Church of Smyrna (modern Izmir, Turkey). According to tradition, he was ordained by the apostles John the Theologian or Paul. He was considered a wise mentor who converted many pagans to Christianity. At his burial site, a myrtle tree grew, which healed the sick, and to which believers came for help.
