The son of a people's deputy was accused of embezzling funds from the community of Lviv Oblast

Investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) announced the suspicion of the son of People's Deputy Andrii Lopushanskyi. He is accused of involvement in a corruption scheme that led to the embezzlement of community funds in the Lviv region.

SBI investigators exposed a scheme of appropriation of budget funds in the Lviv region. According to the investigation, the son of People's Deputy Andrii Lopushanskyi, who holds the post of deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Budget Issues, was involved in the embezzlement.

As the investigation established, in the period from September to December 2019, the son of the people's deputy organized a criminal scheme together with officials of the Verkhnyosynvydna settlement council and commercial structures controlled by him. The abuse concerned the purchase of equipment and materials for the reconstruction of street lighting using innovative energy-efficient measures.

The DBR reported that the implementation of this scheme caused losses to the state in the amount of about one million hryvnias.

Law enforcement officers searched the place of residence of the suspect and his father. As a result, the deputy's son was suspected of 5th century 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – embezzlement, waste of property or possession of it by abuse of official position.

The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to 12 years with confiscation of property. Currently, the investigation is ongoing, and all the details of the case are being established.
