The summer of 2025 can be one of the most extreme in recent decades. Forecasters warn of abnormally high temperature, increased thunderstorms, squalls, hail and probable hydrological drought that threatens not only crops but also water supply in individual regions.
This is stated in a study published by OBOZ.UA with reference to Ukrainian meteorologists.
According to the candidate of geographical sciences Vera Balabukh, Ukraine is already experiencing the consequences of climate change. The main threat is drought caused by a decrease in water levels in rivers, drainage of swamps and falling groundwater levels. Most of all, this problem is affected by the southern and northern regions, including Mykolaiv region, Kherson and even Polesie, which was still considered an area with excess moisture.
In such circumstances, the danger of large-scale natural fires increases, especially in the spring and summer. Endauable small rivers and degradation of aquatic ecosystems can have long -term consequences for the whole country.
In addition to the heat, summer will bring other climatic calls. The head of the department of meteorological forecasts of the Ukrhydromet Center Natalia Goleni warned of an increase in the frequency and intensity of dangerous atmospheric phenomena - hail, squall, drainage and thunderstorm.
"Hot air mass, which will change to the colder, will contribute to the formation of thunderstorms. This can provoke heavy winds, powerful showers and hail that cause special harm to the agricultural sector," the weatherman explained.
In view of these forecasts, government and local authorities, it is necessary to prepare for potential crises - both water and agrarian. Provision of stable water supply, fire prevention, crop insurance and informing the population can be key elements of response to the calls of the coming summer.
