Oleksandr Syrsky, Commander of the Land Forces of Ukraine, made a statement regarding the situation in the Kursk region, which has become a subject of discussion among Ukrainian politicians and military experts.
He stressed that the Ukrainian operation in this area was successful and thwarted Russia's plans to attack in the Sumy direction. According to Syrsky, the task was accomplished, and the enemy suffered significant losses.
Syrsky emphasized that Russia has concentrated about 45,000 troops in the Kursk region, and is also trying to increase their number by attracting military personnel from North Korea due to the shortage of its own forces. According to Syrsky, the occupiers sought to expand the territory of control in northern Ukraine, in particular in the Sumy region, but the Defense Forces of Ukraine took measures in advance to prevent this.
On the other hand, MP Mariana Bezugla reacted to Syrsky's statement with sharp criticism. She believes that his words can be interpreted as prerequisites for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Kursk. Bezugla also noted that Syrsky does not mention the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this process and the possible negative consequences for the Ukrainian front. She even suggested that Syrsky "stay" in the Kursk region, hinting that his statements question the integrity of Ukraine's defense strategy.
Thus, a disagreement arises between military and political representatives in interpreting the military situation at the front. While Syrsky focuses on the achieved victory and the defeat of the enemy, Bezugla draws attention to the shortcomings in planning and tries to raise the question of greater strategic losses for Ukraine.
