Taras Shevchenko was born on March 9, 1814 in the village of Moryntsi, which is now a popular tourism site for kobzar supporters. Shevchenko's family had 7 children and lived in extremely difficult conditions.

At the time of punishment, Shevchenko continued to write poetry, although it was strictly forbidden. In 1859, after his release, he was allowed to visit Ukraine, but was soon arrested. Constant arrests, torture and hard forced labor have undermined the artist's health. On March 10, 1861, at the age of 47, he died in St. Petersburg in a foreign land.

  • During his studies in St. Petersburg, he joined the secular circle and began to dress fashionably. One day he spent almost all the annual salary on a new cloak. He also spent a lot of money on entertainment, cards and drinking with friends.
  • He loved the artist and delicious to eat. It is known that his favorite dishes were borsch with dried cruciate carps, colans, dumplings, and drank all this with strong tea with rum.
  • Shevchenko's ransom from serfdom is now equivalent to about $ 40,000.
  • One day he studied Polish for the sake of a beloved Pole, but could not marry the prohibition of marriages between serfs and a free peasant.
  • The poet has lived for 17 years in St. Petersburg, but never wrote that he likes this city. In his works, he sang only Ukraine.
