Constant arrests, torture and hard forced labor have undermined the artist's health. On March 10, 1861, at the age of 47, he died in St. Petersburg in a foreign land.

  • He loved the artist and delicious to eat. It is known that his favorite dishes were borsch with dried cruciate carps, colans, dumplings, and drank all this with strong tea with rum.
  • Shevchenko's ransom from serfdom is now equivalent to about $ 40,000.
  • One day he studied Polish for the sake of a beloved Pole, but could not marry the prohibition of marriages between serfs and a free peasant.
