In Ukraine, the electricity tariff is UAH 4.32 per 1 kWh. However, there is an opportunity to significantly reduce electricity costs by installing a two-zone or three-zone meter.
Two-zone meter: savings at night
With the installation of a two-zone meter, consumers can take advantage of the preferential night tariff, which is UAH 2.16 per 1 kWh - it is twice as cheap as the daytime tariff. This tariff applies from 23:00 to 07:00. The cost of installing a two-zone meter will pay for itself in 5 months due to savings on night consumption. Owners of such meters can significantly reduce their bills, especially if they use electrical appliances at night.
Tri-zone meter: more options for savings
For those who can plan their electricity consumption and want to take advantage of even more favorable tariffs, there is a possibility of installing a three-zone meter. This metering device has three tariffs:
- Night (from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) — UAH 1,728 per 1 kWh.
- Semi-peak (from 07:00 to 08:00, 11:00 to 20:00, 22:00 to 23:00) — UAH 4.34 per 1 kWh.
- Peak (from 08:00 to 11:00, 20:00 to 22:00) — UAH 6.48 per 1 kWh.
A tri-zone meter is best suited for households with high electricity consumption, where periods of electricity usage can be controlled, such as avoiding peak hours.
How to switch to a new tariff
Any consumer can buy a multi-zone meter and contact their electricity supplier to switch to the new tariff. Such a step will save money if you have the opportunity to control the time of electricity consumption.
According to the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 632 dated 31.05.2024, a single fixed price for electricity will be established for all residents of Ukraine by April 30, 2025 — UAH 4.32 per 1 kWh. This is a preferential tariff that applies to all categories of consumers, including residents of multi-apartment and private buildings, dormitories, garden societies and summer cottage cooperatives.
