Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina showed a brilliant game at the Australian Open, defeating Russian Veronika Kudermetova, who plays under a neutral flag. The match ended with a score of 6:4, 6:1 in favor of Svitolina.
Although the match did not start in favor of the Ukrainian — Kudermetova led 4:1, Svitolina managed to seize the initiative. Thanks to her persistent play and a series of powerful shots, she took five games in a row, closing the first set in her favor. In the second set, the Ukrainian completely dominated, leaving her opponent only one game.
For both tennis players, this was the third meeting in their careers, and the previous two ended in favor of Kudermetova. But this time Svitolina broke the statistics, proving her superiority.
In the quarterfinals, the Ukrainian athlete will meet the winner of the pair Olena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) - Madison Keys (USA). The match is scheduled for January 22.
This performance became Svitolina's third quarterfinal at the Australian Open and 12th at Grand Slam tournaments. The Ukrainian tennis player continues to demonstrate a high level, despite a long break due to the birth of her daughter in 2022.
Svitolina repeatedly emphasized the importance of Ukrainian culture for her family. Together with her husband, French tennis player Gael Monfils, they raise their daughter Skye Monfils. The athlete said that she is trying to instill love for Ukrainian in her family:
"It is very important for me to preserve my identity. I speak Ukrainian, I teach it to my daughter, and I always keep in touch with my native country," Elina shared.
