Ternopil doctor demanded $5,000 for disability registration

In Ternopil, law enforcement officers exposed a doctor who promised to "resolve the issue" of registering a patient's disability for a monetary reward. Ternopil regional police reported this on August 7.

The woman had been receiving treatment at a medical facility for over two years and had medical grounds to receive a disability group. However, instead of properly processing the documents, the doctor began to demand a bribe of $5,000. For this money, the doctor promised to "influence" the decision of the expert commission on the assignment of disability.

According to the published photos, the doctor works at the Ternopil Regional Clinical Hospital. Law enforcement officers detained him while transferring an illegal benefit.

Investigators qualified the actions of the detainee under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - obtaining an unlawful benefit for oneself or a third party for influencing a decision-making process by a person authorized to perform state functions, combined with the extortion of such benefit.

The doctor has been declared a suspect, and the issue of choosing a preventive measure is being decided. Investigative actions are ongoing.
