A car explosion occurred in Kyiv's Obolon district on January 4, with a serviceman inside. The incident was classified as a terrorist act, the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office reported.
The explosion occurred in the morning in the courtyard of a residential building on Heroiv Dnipra Street while the trunk of a car was being opened. The serviceman received shrapnel wounds, while the woman who was nearby was not injured.
Investigators opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for terrorist acts - actions that pose a danger to the life or health of people.
Police, dog handlers, bomb disposal experts, and other relevant services are working at the scene. They are inspecting the area and collecting evidence to establish the circumstances of the explosion.
Let us remind you that this is not the first case of explosions in Kyiv in the last month. On December 12, the SBU and the National Police detained three men suspected of committing a double terrorist attack in the Darnytsia district. Then, as a result of the explosion of two improvised explosive devices, a National Guardsman was killed, and two police officers, a military man, and a security guard were injured.
The incident in Obolon once again highlights the threat of terrorist acts in the capital and requires increased attention from law enforcement agencies.
